Your Images

You have a number of alternatives for organizing the content of your disk. You might choose to send me the photographs, slides or negatives to be scanned and turned into digital images or I can work with any digital images you may already have. I can transfer and convert from any common digital media.

Also VHS, VHS C and 8mm tapes can be used and put to DVD and even incorporated into your show.

Your Digital Images

DVD SHOWS

In a slide show each image is usually shown for 6-8 seconds.  Most shows or presentations should be kept to 20 minutes or less.  I've found 10 to 15 minutes tend to keep everyones attention (that  can be 100-150 pictures!).
Your show can autostart and loop (replay) or have a title screen and menus like a movie.  The right music can set the ambiance.
Most newer DVD players will play Video cd"s (VCD), DVD-R and DVD+R - some will even show the .jpg discs.  Any computer with a DVD drive can read any of the formats.
We can work with a variety of  formats so if you need something special or unusual, just contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.

SCANNING

A 35 mm negative is 1.4x.9 inches. Scanned at 2700 ppi (often called dpi -again not to be confused with a printers dpi) would yield an image 3780x2430 pixels. at 300 ppi that would print a great 12"x8" photo.  The equivelant of a 9 megapixel digital camera.  That image saved as a compressed jpeg (.jpg) would be almot 6mbs and as a tiff file close to 30 mbs!
a 4x6 photograph scanned at 300 yields 1200x1800 pixels (@ 2 megapixels) and a little over 1 mb as a .jpg and almost 5mbs at a scan of 600!
Original JPG images should not be altered.  Each time it is altered and saved you will loose some detail.  Alter a copy and retain the original image.
Consider your true needs present and future.  Higher resolution won't give better results if there is no need - overkill wastes storage room, time and money.

Digital Image Resizing

Formats and Resolution

Compare resolutions here

Analog television is rather small at only 640x480 pixel screen size at a 4:3 ratio.
Most 17 " computer monitors are best set at 1024x768 pixels at a 4:3 ratio.
HDTV will give 1280x720 (called 720p) or 1920x1080 (called 1080i) at a 16:9 ratio.
Scan a photograph at 300-600 ppi.
A 4x6 at 300 gives 1200x1800 pixels (@ 2 MegaPixels). In fact they rarely benefit from more than 300.
A 35 mm negative at 1700 will give 2380x1530 pixels(@3.6 MegaPixels).
Print at  300 ppi (not related to the printers dpi - that is different).
For web pages a monitor only shows/needs 72dpi - very low.
